Meet Your Hosts

Antico Podere Marciano as it is today is the result of a thorough restoration of a traditional rural property, dating the year 1.000. The small charming B&B has been furnished finely, taking care for details and comfort.
The restoration work and interior design project of the Bed and Breakfast were entrusted to interior designer Julia Scartozzoni, who carefully selected suggestive colors, styles and décor to fill the “rural hotel” with a refined yet comfortable atmosphere. All materials used to restore the building, as well as those chosen to furnish both the inside and the outside of the house, are the highest quality available.
Common areas available to all guests of the B&B include the living room equipped with a large fireplace and bar, the den with its library and small fireplace, the wide terraces, and the 16 x 8 meter swimming-pool equipped with a hydro-massage and a waterfall.
The hotel is surrounded by a vast garden and wooded area where there are paths to explore on foot or on mountain bike. The villa has a wide terrace, “la Piazzetta”, which offers a spectacular view of the area, and a pleasant cozy courtyard, “la Corte”, next to the bar. Breakfast and meals are served under the beautiful outdoor loggia which overlooks the valley.. A barbeque area has been created in the spacious garden. Open parking-lot.

You will have time to unpack and relax in your lovely apartment before enjoying a welcome drink with the staff. Your first evening meal will be at the restaurant.

After breakfast, you will have an informative tour followed by a tasting in a winery. After your tour, you will continue on with a drive through the Chianti region situated between Florence and Siena. Here there is an ancient Roman road which will take us to the medieval town known as San Gimignano. You will discover why San Gimignano is the only remaining medieval town which has been called the “Manhattan of Tuscany” and witness firsthand its ten (originally there were seventy two) towers! You will have a chance to shop while strolling along the magical windy streets, which are packed with local artisans’ stores that specialize in ceramics, leather goods and wooden crafts. Then, in the charming Villa della Rocca di Montestaffoli, there is the Museum of Vernaccia Wine, a tribute to the quality and prestige of the wines produced in San Gimignano: Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, San Gimignano Rosso DOC, San Gimignano Rosato DOC, San Gimignano Vin Santo DOC and different IGT Toscana. The villa is located at the highest point of the city, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view. Enjoy your first cooking class followed by dinner.

After breakfast, transfer to Certaldo, a delightful small village located in the centre of Val d’Elsa. Because of its artistic beauty, this interesting and beautiful city of art got the Orange Flag by the Italian Touring Club. Certaldo is known for its long history, for its precious artistic heritage and for being the birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio. The numerous archaeological finds scattered throughout the territory, evidence the Etruscan-Roman origins of the village. Then you’ll visit Volterra, a charming town of Etruscan origins, with a typical Medieval structure, where you can still enjoy the atmosphere of an ancient village. Famous for its open-air quarries of alabaster, Volterra is one of the richest cities in Tuscany, which attracts numerous tourists each year and offers a special heritage, In Volterra history has left its mark from the Etruscan period until the nineteenth century. In this historical setting, the village is surrounded by a unique landscape. The last stop is Monteriggioni a small fortified village, one of the most significant in the territory. It still preserves its original shape as if time had never passed on that picturesque hill. The village, with its narrow streets and ancient buildings, is visited each year by about 70,000 tourists, attracted by its unique beauty, which also impressed Dante Alighieri many centuries ago, so as to cite Monteriggioni in the 31st canticle of the Inferno. Dinner at the restaurant.

After breakfast, enjoy your second cooking class followed by lunch. In the afternoon discover the Chianti region: Greve in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti are your goals of today. There are small ancient villages located on the hills between the Val d’Elsa, Val di Pesa, and the valley of river Arbia. You will try the unique taste of chianti in the wonderful Monsanto castle. Dinner at restaurant.

After breakfast, you will be off to beautiful Lucca. You will enjoy a walking tour around the heart of Lucca, which is considered to be one of the most picturesque of all the fortified (medieval wall) towns in Tuscany. After our informative tour, you will have free time to shop, take a walk around the 16th century intact walls, visit museums and churches or simply sit in one of the many cafe’s that line this Roman city. You will enjoy a light lunch in one of the many Trattoria’s in Lucca. On our return to the castle we will go to Pisa and visit the Cathedral, Leaning Tower and Baptistery (exterior only) followed by a stroll in to the city center. Arrive at the Roman Forum where you will view the lavish 15th century Palazzi built by The Medici family. Dine in the heart of the Carmignano region where you will have dinner in a wine bar in the town center. You will be introduced to the wines of Carmignano accompanied by a tasting-specific menu.
